Houthis seek next Islamic Revolution in Yemen 35 years after Irans revolution

Forces were deployed to the streets of Yemen's capital city of Sanaa as the Houth Group ordered its militants to hold mass demonstrations in it and other cities to demand canceling a recently approved oil subsidy reform, Yemen Post said. .
Last night, the Interior Ministry tightened measures at entrances to the capital and ordered to prevent carrying weapons in the city even by those who have weapon permits. Houthis are attempting to lead an Islamic revolution in Yemen as Shia religious leaders did in Iran in the late 70's.
Moreover, jet fighters are flying over the capital since early today after the Houthis' leader, Abdulmalik, called on the forces to join the people in their demonstrations. In a televised speech last night, he said that his followers will pitch large tents outside the capital and give the authorities to Friday as a deadline to cancel the reform. 


 

WFP celebrates World Humanitarian Day

The World Food Programme (WFP) is joining other organizations and agencies around the globe in advance of World Humanitarian Day on 19 August, state-run 26 September website reported

In its statement, the WFP said that the celebration aims to bring attention to the heroes who risk their lives every day to help people in need

"These humanitarian heroes put themselves in danger transporting food around the world, distributing it in areas besieged by conflict or ravaged by natural disaster, and running the programmes that help millions of children, women and men build their futures

"World Humanitarian Day is a day to remember our 'humanitarian heroes'. The colleagues who lost their lives while serving others," said WFP Executive Director Ertharin Cousin. "But it's also a day to celebrate our everyday heroes -- the WFP staff and partners who work tirelessly to help build the future we all want, a future of zero hunger in which everyone will thrive

In total, there are nearly 14,200 humanitarian heroes working for WFP. They come from 158 nations and are deployed in 99 countries around the world

In Yemen, WFP plans to provide assistance to some 6 million vulnerable people over the next two years through a range of activities, including food relief, cash transfers, food and cash for work, prevention and treatment of malnutrition, school feeding and take-home rations for girls attending school

"We are shifting the emphasis of our operations from relief to building livelihoods and boosting resilience," said WFP Yemen Country Director Bishow Parajuli. "Our aim is to help people to help themselves

Yemen’s President Appreciates UN Support for Political Settlement
Yemeni President Abd Rabo Mansour Hadi Sunday appreciated the United Nations' support for his country and the successful political settlement based on the Gulf initiative, its executive mechanism and UN Security Council resolutions, Kuwait News Agency reported
Hadi discussed with Jamal Benomar, the Special Adviser to the UN Secretary-General on Yemen, the latest developments in Yemen, steps of implementing outcomes of the comprehensive Yemen National Dialogue Conference (NDC) and government efforts to counter terrorism
Yemeni Government cut a long path in implementing the outcomes of the conference and forming a commission to write the constitution, Hadi said 
The meeting also focused on current preparations and exerted efforts for holding Yemen's friends conference in New York late September
For his part, Benomar said that his visit to Yemen aims to follow up on the local developments in order to be discussed in the upcoming Security Council meeting on August 25 to examine the latest situation in Yemen
Benomar stressed UN readiness to support efforts of the national body tasked with implementing outcomes of the conference to do its mission as required



Benomar calls all Yemeni parties to abide by power transfer deal

The UN Secretary-General’s Special Adviser on Yemen, Jamal Benomar has called on all parties in Yemen to be committed to the implementation of the power . transfer agreement, Saba Agency reported
Benomar affirmed, in a press release issued by his office in Sana’a during his separate meetings with head of the supreme body of Islah Party Mohamed al-Yadomi and representatives of Ansar Allah, the need for the all parties’ commitment to implement the power transfer agreement (the GCC initiative and its executive mechanism), the outcomes of the national dialogue conference (NDC) and the Security Council resolutions as a basis for moving forward towards building a new Yemeni state
In this regard, the UN official stressed the importance of the political forces’ cooperation to provide a favorable climate for the completion of the remaining tasks of the transition process
Benomar assured at the same time the keenness of the UN organization to support the efforts to implement the NDC’s outcomes, including the role of constitution drafting committee and the National Commission to oversee the implementation of the dialogue outcomes

Clashes erupted between army and al-Qaeda in Hadhramout

  one soldier and nine al-Qaeda militants were killed on Wednesday in clashes between the 

Yemeni army and al-Qaeda.
The state news agency, Saba, affirmed that one soldiers were killed and three others were wounded in ambushes installed by al-Qaeda to military enforcements.

The Yemeni government has sent military reinforcements to Sayoun in order to conduct potential attacks against al-Qaeda militants.

Houthis execute civilian in Amran without trial


Houthi militants executed a citizen by opening fire on him in Amran province, where lawyers dubbed such action as an outlaw killing., Yemen Fox  reported.  

Local source said that the Insurgent Houthis who control over Amran province since last July, executed a person called "Fouad Saleh Masah" on charge of killing 4 children in Beit al-Faqyah district during the war in Amran province. 
Masah was executed in Dhulaima district ; his hometown on Tuesday evening after he was tried by the Houthi militants in Sa'ada province. 
For their part, Human Rights activists said that the execution was fulfilled outlaw in a flagrant breach of rules of Human Right, calling on Yemeni government to prosecute Houthi's leader who exert kidnapping and prosecuting people without official status.


'Qaeda' suspects break into YBRD , 4 killed in Yemen's Bayda

Suspected al-Qaeda gunmen shot dead Wednesday four Yemeni soldiers and injured others In clashes between security forces backed by army and gunmen suspected to be al-Qaeda who tried to storm into Yemen Bank for Reconstruction and Development in Rada district of Bayda province central Yemen, Mareb Press said. . 
Local sources said that clashes are underway between gunmen and security forces backed army in Rada at the time of writing this report. 
Rada is considered on of the strongholds of al-Qaeda that has been witnessing bloody events that claimed dozens lives for the last period. 
Separately , at least five Yemeni soldiers were killed in an ambush in Yemen's southern province of Shabwa on Wednesday. 
Security source said that unidentified gunmen suspected to be al-Qaeda targeted one of the army vehicles with a rocket-propelled grenade in the Haban region of Shabwa province southeastern Yemen killing five soldiers.


18 terrorists killed, 3 others arrested in Hadramout

Army arrested on Wednesday three terrorists, including one Saudi, after confrontations in the southeastern governorate of Hadramout, Saba Agency said. .

The terrorists were arrested when military troops thwarted three ambushes in Mukalla-Sayoun road in Hadramout governorate, where terrorists opened fire on army troops, a military official said.

"18 terrorists were killed and many others wounded." 

The confrontations led to killing one soldier and injuring five others, the source said.


Amran IDPs return home increasingly: OCHA

Amran Internally displaced persons (IDPs) appear to be returning home in increasing numbers, United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) - Yemen has said.

"As of 24 July, local people estimated that about half of IDPs had already returned, although this figure could not be independently verified," OCHA said in its report on the situation in Amran issued on 5 August. At the peak of the crisis, partners estimated that 45,000 people had been displaced, Saba Agency said. 

The report showed that the conditions in Amran governorate and neighboring areas remain calm, and access to and from the area is open.

It said that the humanitarian partners were re-establishing operations there. "To date, partners have distributed one-time assistance – mainly food and hygiene kits – to about 5,000 families who were displaced by recent conflict."

According to the report, the Humanitarian Coordinator travelled to Amran on 24 July to observe local conditions and advocate humanitarian access, where he met with local authorities, advocated humanitarian access and promoted mutual commitments on humanitarian action. 

OCHA said that the humanitarian partners have confirmed that there were no obstacles to resuming their operations in Amran to date.
